Jill Weaver Starkman Scholarship
The Jill Weaver Starkman Scholarship offered by Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults is awarded to young adults who have cancer or who have conquered it or, to young adults who have selflessly supported a brother, sister, mother, or father who has been diagnosed with cancer.
Jill Weaver Starkman was a loving mother of three and an accomplished professional horsewoman and trainer in San Luis Obispo, CA. She died of breast cancer in 2012. Jill’s daughter, Sophia, asked to honor her mother’s memory and her love of horses with this college scholarship. The scholarship helps support a young adult’s determination to persevere by pushing fear aside and finding the courage to “Get back on the horse.”
The Ulman Foundation is committed to helping young adults (ages 15-39) continue their education after their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults files for 501(c)3 status, making the initial venture into supporting young adults with cancer official.
